Sustainability, Recycling and the Circular Economy

A super important element to the Vision148 project will be sustainability, recycling and the circular economy not only for the build of the car but across the project and it’s operations.Calling the project the carbon piranha is not exactly the most sustainable starting place and Carbon fibre material waste is a huge problem and usually ends up in landfill.

However, there are ways to use recycled carbon, which is a start.Launching the Vision148 project as a unique start up gives us the opportunity to have a blank sheet of paper on how we can deliver the project and to also explore new ideas and ways to be more sustainable. As long as we keep asking the question ‘what can we do to be more sustainable?’is we believe a positive ethos.

We intend to avoid being seen as virtue signalling, it will be difficult, but a long journey starts with a single step.

Each element of the project from the build to the merchandise and community will be reviewed, assessed for its sustainability and recyclability. We want to take every aspect of our business into account but to also develop ways to generate empirical data so that we can improve in all aspects from the build to supply chain and operations.

And of course we will be recycling and reusing original parts dependent on condition, but each component will be evaluated properly. Why this is important is that we can use data from a working model to develop a strategy to deploy improvements through marginal gains until we feel happy that a benefit has been achieved.

We can’t do this over night as there are many variables to the project and we have to be honest with ourselves and how we present this. Our plan is to collaborate with partner businesses and work with them to identify hot spots and work with them to help us implement better ways of doing things. We won’t have all the answers and some of the processes that we employ won’t mitigate all our carbon or waste, but we will learn and evolve.

Offsetting and Tree planting is ok as a help, and we will likely include this through the project but it’s not getting to the core of the issue and that’s what we want to get to, understand and disrupt.

The project will put a spotlight on the good and bad of manufacturing and develop a direct understanding of how our business can be improved for now and the future and to offer up our experience to help other businesses.

We hope to not let the perfect be the enemy of the good…
